Yoshida Shokanji International School, Sapugaskanda, Makola, Kiribathgoda will host the delegates participating for the 150th birth anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala, organized by Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka. President of Mahabodhi Society, Ven. Banagala Upatissa Thera said that several events has been organized to commemorate the anniversary of Anagarika Dharmapala.
The main ceremony under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be held at the Independence Square today. This will be followed by another commemorative event organized by Mahabodhi Society at 3 pm at Mahabodhi Headquarters which will be attended by Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne and Foreign Minister G. L. Peiris. Several delegates from Japan, India and Korea will attend this ceremony. One of the key delegates from Japan, Japanese parliamentarian, Antonio Inoki will attend this ceremony along with some Japanese parliamentarians. Anagarika Darmapala was based at Mahabodhi in Maradana.
Anagarika Dharmapala was a Sri Lankan Buddhist revivalist and writer. He was one of the founding contributors of non-violent Sinhalese Buddhist Nationalism and Buddhism. He was also a pioneer in the revival of Buddhism in India after it had been virtually extinct there for several centuries, and he was the first Buddhist in modern times to preach the Dharma in three continents: Asia, North America, and Europe.
Antonio Inoki was a Japanese professional wrestling promoter, politician, retired professional wrestler and mixed martial artist. He was also the founder and former owner of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
