Those who criticize development work such as construction of roads and bridges are trying to convince the people that the government is proceeding on an unsuccessful path. However, the people realizing the importance of the development program will give their contribution to the government by manifesting their preference to the United People’s Freedom Alliance at the upcoming Provincial Council Election, said Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.

The Prime Minister addressing a meeting at Mathatilla, Bandarawela said groups who are unable to understand the future path of the government constantly criticize it. They take measures to destroy the faith that people have on the government spreading various canards. But people are not stupid. They always act wisely. Opposition elements cannot mislead the people. Although the critics who question the use of roads and bridges are trying to demolish the development process, people have realized benefits of development. They need this type of government, he said.

The government has developed the country fast in a short period after the war. It continues to develop the country by entering into agreements with many other countries including China, Japan and Russia. Benefits of the development will go to the people. The Opposition, too, can enjoy these benefits. The country, where people receive many facilities such as health, education, roads free-of-charge can be transformed to a developed country soon, he said.

The International Monetary Fund has proclaimed Sri Lanka as a rapidly developing country, the Prime Minister said.

This election is not a competition among parties, but an issue related with nationality, religion and international politics.

Human Rights Organizations alleged that the country has violated the human rights of terrorists, since President Mahinda Rajapaksa took measures to free the country from terrorism.

“The sacrifice by the President can be defined as a contribution given to Sri Lankans. It is our duty and responsibility to save the President and other patriots from the criticism of such organizations,” he said.

“We will be able to celebrate the victory of United People’s Freedom Alliance at the upcoming Provincial Council Election and make it as a victory of the nation,” the Prime Minister said.

Udaarawa, Bandarawela Shri Vivekaramaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Galgodagama Sobhitha Thera, Puttalam District MP Arundika Fernando and Kurunegala District MP Shantha Bandara were also present.
