A novel strategy has been put in place by the leaders of the UPFA to prevent meetings of other parties in the Moneragala District, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) charged today.
JVP accused that some higher-ups in the ruling UPFA in Monerala prevented the JVP from holding an election rally on Saturday by holding a rival meeting at the same venue.
JVP candidate R. M. Jayawardene, who heads the party’s group in the Moneragala District told the Daily Mirror that his party was getting ready to hold the rally in Weheragala on Saturday when the UPFA members came with a mobile stage, started a rally almost on the same location.
Jayawardene said the UPFA rally was held just couple of metres away where the JVP was planning to hold its rally.
Mr. Jayawardene said that they had lodged a complaint with the Police. (YP)
